Millions of the world's poorest are unable to provide the collateral necessary to secure a traditional loan. It was for this reason that microcredit institutions were born. These institutions give "micro" loans, often less than $100, to clients who display a spirit of entrepreneurship and have an idea for enterprise. With a loan in hand, clients are then able to launch their business - for example, weaving cloth, selling tortillas or milking a buffalo. With the profits from their businesses, clients are able to provide for their families and homes. They can also reinvest in their businesses in order to take further steps out of poverty.
