[Ben Herbert, McAuley Health Center] "Because the stigma is so strong for this illness, people are still very afraid of other folks knowing that they are HIV-positive. That silence is killing us." (1:32 min) |
When faced with the magnitude of a pandemic such as HIV/AIDS, it is often too daunting to even engage. Our desire is to challenge the misconceptions that exist, present a Scriptural basis for involvement, and trigger a response.
We see the Global Church mobilized to respond to the various faces of need caused by HIV/AIDS. We see nations linked up through the efforts of the church to respond to this crisis. We see neighborhoods rallying around those in need, leveraging resources to combat the erosion of our interdependence. We see people who carry the name of Jesus as those leading the way into the most church forsaken issue of our time.
Jesus demonstrated love for all people, especially those that had been marginalized or forgotten by the religious community of his day. As a Community of followers of Jesus, our desire is to demonstrate that same love.
