By raising funds and pledges to benefit WaterAid, the Walk for Water helps the world's poorest gain access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education.

Why Water?

Water, in parts of the world, is available in the next room—clean, drinkable, from a faucet. But on a global scale, water and sanitation have reached a level of crisis. Billions of the world's poorest are not only without access to safe water; they also lack basic sanitation and hygiene education. This means that for much of the world's population, getting water to drink or drinking it is something that can lead to sickness and disease, even death. Such widespread poor health in turn fosters a cycle of poverty, preventing progress and development in health, education, and overall economy.

Why Walk?

In many countries, families rely on children, particularly girls, to collect water daily. Girls as young as 10 years old are responsible to walk to the nearest water source, draw enough water for their family, and then carry the water home.
